Geliana Maarifa

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Maarifa is Swahili for "knowledge." I built this because I kept catching myself making confident claims about Kenya's economy and health system with nothing but vibes and a misplaced sense of superiority. Turns out, sourcing actual data from Kenyan institutions is its own special kind of hell — there are no APIs, everything lives in PDFs, and you either read 400-page budget documents or ask an LLM to do your dirty work. This is the result of choosing the latter.

Actually Cited

Every chart footnotes its source. World Bank, KDHS, Peer-Reviewed papers. I didn't make this up (even though it sometimes reads like I did).

Comparative Pain

Kenya's numbers only sting when you see them next to Vietnam, Ghana, and the SSA average. This site curates that sting.

Bias-Aware

The whole point is to stop pulling figures out of thin air to win arguments. I fail at this daily — but at least now I have a website to fact-check myself.

I bought the domain geliana.com a year ago for my "next big project." That project didn't work out. Until I lose access to this domain due to debts, depression, booze, or an alien invasion, this site will live here.
